Japan, Italy vow cooperation on economic security, mineral supply chains
At a joint news conference, Takaichi said the two countries upgraded their partnership from “strategic” to “special strategic”, expanding collaboration across fields including security, culture, and technology.
Meloni described the meeting as an “important meeting to strengthen a relationship founded on mutual respect, friendship, and shared values, rooted in over 160 years of diplomatic relations.”
She emphasized that Italy and Japan are “reliable partners” working together to promote stability, growth, and an international order based on rules, dialogue, and responsibility.
The leaders agreed to enhance cooperation in defense, the economy, economic security, critical minerals, space, science and technology, and addressing global challenges, aiming to build security and opportunities for their citizens and future generations.
