Poland Swears In President Karol Nawrocki
The inauguration ceremony took place in front of the Polish parliament on Wednesday morning, marking Nawrocki’s succession of Andrzej Duda, who had held the presidency since 2015.
Nawrocki secured the presidency with 50.9% of the votes, narrowly edging out Warsaw Mayor Rafal Trzaskowski in a highly competitive runoff held on June 1.
At 42 years old and a conservative historian by background, Nawrocki’s term is expected to put pressure on Poland’s relations with the European Union.
This is due to his Eurosceptic views, strong connections with the Trump administration, and emphasis on national interests, including prioritizing Polish nationals over Ukrainian refugees in economic and social matters.
His election also marks a nationalist turn for Poland, reflecting a wider trend of right-wing populism gaining ground across Europe.
