Germany Boosts Poland’s Military with Fighter Jets Amid Russia Threat
According to officials from the German Defense Ministry, five Eurofighter Typhoon jets will be stationed at Minsk Mazowiecki Air Base, located east of Warsaw, where they will support Polish forces in airspace surveillance missions.
"This deployment demonstrates NATO alliance solidarity and provides credible deterrence while protecting our shared airspace," a spokesperson for the German Air Force told Bild daily, noting that the air-policing flights were scheduled to commence on Tuesday.
Approximately 150 German troops have been deployed to the Polish base in support of this mission, which is projected to last around one month, officials added.
Poland—an essential NATO and EU member—continues to act as a strategic corridor for Western military assistance to Ukraine. Since April, the German Air Force has been collaborating with Poland on airspace monitoring efforts. Prior to this operation, German fighter jets carried out similar missions from their base in Rostock.
